Welcome to Our Coding Lab

Most of our visitors find their way here when they’re ready to learn how to code or they’re looking for some teaching material. Whatever your reason for checking us out, you’ve come to the right spot. Our Coding Lab may be in its infancy stage, but we expect a busy year here in the lab.

We hope you have fun in our Coding Lab!

We’re currently working on our Scratch Coding Camp where you can earn camp badges for each tutorial you complete. Once we finish a few more Scratch tutorials we’ll be hard at work on our Python Camp where a surprise awaits. Feel free to use our Contact Us page to sign up for our email subscriber list.  We’ll be sure to let you know when additional coding camp tutorials are available.

Coding Options For Kids

There are numerous coding languages geared toward kids with endless possibilities. Whether you’re looking into robotics, game design, animation, or app development, the ability to code is an invaluable skill to possess. Not only does coding help stimulate creativity in your kids, but it will also strengthen their problem-solving and computational thinking skills. As we add additional languages to our lab, we will include a quick summary of each language below.

Scratch

Scratch is a free graphical programming language and online community created by the MIT Media Lab.  It was designed to help kids learn how to program visually with blocks that snap together to create groups of instructions, known as scripts.  These scripts will control objects, known as sprites, in their projects.

Our Scratch Coding Camp consists of a variety of tutorials your kids can complete to earn camp badges. These tutorials will engage your kids through fun coding exercises that are designed to turn young coding novices into coding enthusiasts. Are your kids already familiar with Scratch? Sign up for our email subscriber list through our Contact Us page and we’ll be sure to let you know when our more advanced coding camp tutorials are available.

Python

Python is a programming language widely used today. Created by Guido van Rossum in the 1980s and released in 1991, Rossum designed Python to be a general-purpose language with easy-to-learn syntax. These characteristics are why Python is a great language for kids. And since Python can be used in robotics as well as with the popular Raspberry Pi, the fun of coding with Python is endless.

Our Python Coding Camp is still in the design phase, but please sign up for our email subscriber list through our Contact Us page so we can let you know when our Python tutorials are ready.
